The successor to the legendary Canon C300 has arrived and it sure does have big shoes to fill! The Canon C300 MK II is a 4K camcorder and can be hired with either EF or PL lens mounts, please specify in advance. C300 MKII is approved by the EBU (European Broadcast Union) and they confirmed 15 stops of dynamic range too!
The C300 MK2 features a DIGIC DV5 Super35 sensor, 8.85 megapixel that delivers an impressive 15 stops of dynamic range at 10 bit 4:2:2 up to 410Mbps, XF-AVC (Intra and Long GOP) in an MXF wrapper, recording to lightening fast CFast 2.0 cards.
The Canon C300 Mark 2 features high speed / slow motion recording up to an impressive 120 fps.
The C300 MKII shoots 4K internally, but 4K RAW is also available when recording externally (10 bit 4:4:4) to an Odyssey 7Q+ with a RAW license, both of which Panny Hire can supply (additional). The Canon C300 MKII facilitates internal 4K recording and external 7Q+ 4K RAW recording simultaneously!
Regular 1920 x 1080 at 50Mbps HD recording is also available should you prefer.
The C300 MK 2 features new and improved 5 stage internal optical ND filters ranging from 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 stops. The ISO range is equally as impressive ranging from 160 ISO to 102,400 ISO.
Two of our favourite features on the EOS C300 MK II camera are the Autofocus tracking which works surprisingly well, it can autofocus track your selected subject from the background to the foreground or across the focal plane, which is a technology we have not seen before in a camera; reliable autofocus tracking? Our other favourite feature is the C300 MK2’s LCD monitor which is a high resolution 1.17 megapixel LCD display with a 5000:1 contrast ratio, which is a sizeable increase from the original C300’s 270:1 contrast ratio, the C300 MKII also features a 1.55 megapixel EVF too which is also very sharp and very bright!
We believe the Canon C300 MKII is a winner, as C300 faithful productions transition from HD to 4K, from C300 to C300 MKII it is a natural progression and the C300 MKII feels very familiar, with native EF or PL mounts too, no need for a Metabones or those dreaded Sony menus!
