The Arri Alexa and Odyssey 7Q+ when used together offer a powerful partnership. The Arri Alexa is generally capable of recording at 1080p HD or 2K maximum (internal recording to SxS cards), however the Alexa is capable of outputting a 3G-SDI Dual Link signal over a normal HD-SDI cable, this output signal is an ARRIRAW feed (t-link) and the output resolution is 2.8K. So, instead of recording internally to SxS cards at 1080p HD or 2K resolution at 4:2:2 or 4:4:4:4 the Odyssey unlocks extra Alexa firepower and enables the recording of true native ARRIRAW 2.8K resolution material.

From 2K to 2.8K is a serious leap-up in resolution and ProRes to RAW is a substantial upgrade too, our Odyssey 7Q+ monitor / recorder has the full RAW license so it is fully equipped to capture ARRIRAW 2.8K.

The Odyssey 7Q+ is powered via D-Tap directly from the Alexa and it makes for a wonderful monitor, equipped with a host of exposure and focus tools. The Odyssey 7Q+ is supplied with 2 x Large 512GB SSD drives, so using the Odyssey with the Alexa is totally hassle-free, no worries about power or storage. The Odyssey 7Q+ can also be record triggered via the Alexa, so you can shoot HD or 2K ProRes proxies (4:2:2 or 4:4:4:4) at the same time as ARRIRAW and you only have to press Record on the camera to trigger the Alexa and the Odyssey simultaneously.

The ARRIRAW files (.ari) are natively supported in Premiere Pro CC, After Effects CC, DaVinci Resolve, AVID Media Composer and Final Cut Pro X.

The Alexa has an ALEV III Super35 CMOS sensor that has a 3.5K native resolution and 14 stops of dynamic resolution DR. The highlights roll-off is a thing of pure beauty, it is natural and organic. The shadows are deep and dark without undesirable video noise, no blue sparkles.. The colour rendering is also a thing of superiority in its accuracy. When shooting in 1080P HD the Alexa’s ALEV III sensor’s native resolution is over-sampled by a factor of X 1.5 which delivers an image with incredibly very low noise, very low aliasing and an increased MTF. The native ISO of the Alexa sensor is 800 EI (exposure index) / 800 ISO, ranging from 160 to 3200 EI, native rating is 800 EI so the low-light performance is very good.

All of our Arri Alexa cameras come equipped with the 120fps high speed license included free of charge, so you can shoot from 1 to 120 frames per second @ 2K ProRes 4444 12-bit to SxS cards! We supply 5 x 64GB SxS Pro+ Cards as standard, these are a requirement of high speed shooting. Our Alexa is also supplied with the Arri EVF electronic OLED viewfinder.

The Alexa Classic EV camera is as versatile and easy on set as it is through the post production process, each element is optimally designed to suit the industry and the people working with it. The limitation is no longer with the camera!
